Consumer financES

The goal of the research entity is to produce new and predictive information regarding consumers' finances adjusting to the structural changes in the national economy and, in particular, the European common market. The research entity studies the market functionality from the consumers' perspective and the consumers' ability to have an influence. The goal is to see how consumers can administer and manage their finances and other resources and to further observe how they experience their well-being being fulfilled in this entity while doing so.

The research results can be utilised by both the public and private sector in their decision-making. In addition, consumers and consumer organisations can also utilise the research information in adapting and learning new operational procedures. Research results, conference presentations and publications are included in scientific discussions. In addition, the adaptation of new research methods is to be further promoted.

In the area of consumers’ finance management, a doctoral dissertation of the credit-based lifestyles and the excessive credit debt of young consumers will be completed. In addition, the development of a concept that enables the overall wealth management of consumers will be completed. A report will be created regarding adapting E-invoices using materials gathered earlier. The project entity that studies the basic financial security of consumers will be started, funded by the Academy of Finland, and the Research Centre's responsibility is to study the minimum consumption level based on statistics and to develop the consumer item baskets needed in every-day life that represent a reasonable level of consumption. In addition, the value added tax rate reduction's effects on pricing are to be monitored in a three-year project.

In the consumer society’s challenges for the consumer area, a research assessment of the effect of consumption poverty on becoming socially excluded is to be completed. The research on household production changes and the services replacing them is also to be continued. The effect of policy actions that promote sustainable development on consumer behaviour are assessed in a three-year project funded by EU.
